The Coffee Mom’s Devotional

What mom hasn’t spilled coffee trying to tote too many things at once?  What mom on a tight schedule hasn’t been late to a meeting because she stopped to buy a coffee?  What mom hasn’t subsisted on a latte until noon or later?  What mom hasn’t had the jitters?  All moms will identify with The Coffee Mom’s Devotional—and though filled with lots of laughs, the message is clear:  Caffeine can never sustain us, only Jesus can—and will.

Advance Praise for The Coffee Mom’s Devotional:
“Finally, a devotional book written just for me – A coffee lovin Mama with too little time, too much stress, and not enough chocolate caramel creamer in my fridge.”
-Trish Berg, Coffee drinker, mother of 4 and author of Rattled – Surviving Your Baby’s First Year without Losing Your Cool and The Great American Supper Swap.

“In her disarmingly conversational style, Celeste Palermo serves up a delightful blend of humor, wit, life experience and practical insights, all grounded in biblical truth. Get it for the moms in your life but don’t be afraid to have a “soul stirring drink” yourself.”
--Steve Moore, President & CEO, The Mission Exchange

“I savored the insights in The Coffee Mom’s Devotional. Celeste Palermo’s refreshing honesty is spiced with a liberal dash of humor. Moms will identify with her appealing blend of topics that include friendship, purpose, hope, and respect. Some moms depend on their daily dose of caffeine to get through the day. Celeste reminds us “to drink in the fullness of God.”

From the Red Tees: Help, Hope, and Humor for Women on the Green

Book Overview
In today's world, it seems that men grow up playing golf. By the time they pass through adolescence, most have learned the rules, etiquette, and terminology of golf through experience. Many women, however, lack the basic knowledge of the game and are short of playing experience on the fairways and greens. But many women today have taken up the game and are playing from the red tees with their husbands, friends, or business associates.
For those women who lack experience, getting into the "swing" of golf no longer needs to be scary or stressful. From the Red Tees is the book currently missing from the bookstore shelves, pro shops, and golf stores. It is packed with need-to-know tips, basic golf etiquette, the rules of the game, and humorous stories and golf anecdotes. Aspiring golfers will appreciate the wealth of information written for women by a woman who's been over par and out of bounds on many occasions.
By acknowledging the vulnerability, frustration, and humiliation typically felt by those new to the sport, From the Red Tees reminds golfers that insecurities and mistakes are normal and that everyone needs a mulligan now and then. A concise volume for quick reference, it also is small enough to fit into a purse or golf bag for continued confidence while on the links.
With From the Red Tees, women no longer need to spend large sums of money on expensive and sometimes intimidating golf lessons. Fun and helpful rather than technical and overwhelming, the book will have even the most novice female golfer driving the fairway and shooting for par.

Excerpts

A bit on insecurity:
“If “cut” and “draw” define craft activities with your toddler and “hook” and “bite” are only fishing terms you’ve heard your husband use, then it is easy to see where a little insecurity might manifest with regard to golf…”

A bit on etiquette:
“…A few holes later, I am not sure what to do.  Two players have their golf balls very close to each other.  If I go straight to my ball, per my husband’s advice, I may disturb one of their “lines.”  Even if step over their imaginary routes, I feel I may encroach on their putting area.  So I summon my inner dancer and perform a split leap—over both putting lines.  So maybe I didn’t get a casting call from Fame, but I land right near my ball and am impressed with my graceful, soft spike landing.  This must be why they call it the dance floor—because sometimes you have to pull out a strategic ballroom move to negotiate the green.”

A bit on the Boy’s Club:
“When men play the game, they are competitive.  Although they are sportsmanlike, they do not offer each other a “you can do it” pep-squad cheer at the tee box.  Instead they bet cash they can beat each other and try their best to do so.  They play by the book and talk very little, usually very focused on their game.  A new player in their group, does not get any favors; he is likely losing and buying the beer…”

Praise for From the Red Tees

“If you are new to golf, or thinking about taking up the game, this is a must read…a long-overdue book that shows how easy it is to get involved in the game and highlights how much fun golf can be for everyone.”  --MIKE McGETRICK, 1999 PGA National Teacher of the Year and renowned teacher of many successful LPGA golfers

“I believe this book will be an eye-opener for the woman golfer.  All the questions she would want answered regarding golf are answered.  My women golfers will love this book!  Thanks for writing what we are all thinking and asking. “  --NANCY QUARCELINO, Golf for Women Top 50 Instructor, Golf Magazine Top 100 instructor, King’s Creek Golf Club, Spring Hill, Tennessee

“I thought it was hilarious and I could relate to it completely!  I just started picking up golf and I didn't know much about rules, scoring, and even what clubs to use, but I felt so dumb asking...  Your book explains everything a woman picking up the game needs to know...in real terms that she can understand!  It's nice to know so many of us have been in the same boat when it comes to picking up golf...”   ---JULIE BROWMAN, Altitude Sports and Entertainment

“I have been an avid golfer for over 15 years now and for the first time, feel like I understand the dynamics at hand for women’s golf. I have previously tried to bring my wife and sister along into the sport, but have failed miserably. This book would have been a perfect introduction for both me, and the women I was trying to teach.”
--David Blackwell, Kansas City, MO

“This is a fun & easy read! Palermo educates the novice golfer about proper course etiquette & terminology, and peppers her not-so-technical golf "manual" with humorous anecdotes. I highly recommend Red Tees to any woman hesitant to brave the links - it will provide knowledge, confidence, and some laughs!” --- Jennifer Weaver, Denver, CO

“This book is a great, stress-free way to learn the ropes of golfing with the guys BEFORE going out on the course! It's a fun and entertaining way to help you remember all the do's and do not's so you do NOT get embarrassed while playing! I'm buying a copy for all my girlfriends...”  --Nicole Glazier, Greensboro, NC
